“EXPERIENCE MONEY CAN’T BUY” AT RAINFORESTATION
MONDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2009
A lucky girl celebrated her 7th birthday with an experience money can’t buy when she became “Wildlife Keeper For A Day” at Rainforestation Nature Park in Kuranda over the weekend.
Rainforestation generously provided the opportunity as an “Experience Money Can’t Buy” to raise money for the Hospital Foundation, as part of the Give Me 5 for Kids campaign.
The experience was sold for $400 in a radio auction by SeaFM to Jess Tanswell, who gave the experience to her daughter Zara for her 7th birthday. A higher bid was received from a gentleman in Townsville, but time had run out.
Zara and her family celebrated her “Wildlife Keeper For A Day” experience on Sunday 11th October, where she assisted wildlife keepers in food preparation and then feeding animals such as kangaroos, crocodiles, snakes, the endangered cassowary, and a rare spotted tiger quoll.
Jess Tanswell said Zara had a wonderful time and seemed ecstatic with the whole day.
“She slept for 14 hours in her uniform and then wore it to school the next day… I can see I’m going to have problems getting it off her,” she said.
“She couldn’t even pick her favourite thing because she loved everything.”
Rainforestation General Manager Chris Grantham said Zara received her own Wildlife Keeper uniform and cap to join the staff at Rainforestation Nature Park.
“Our dedicated Wildlife Keepers have devoted themselves to this worthwhile cause, and welcomed Zara as an extra member to their team with the aim to educate visitors on our native Australian wildlife and how to conserve our environment,” he said.
The other attractions at Rainforestation were also included in the experience for Zara’s family: an Army Duck Rainforest Tour, Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience with Dreamtime Walk and Dance Performance, followed by the Tropical BBQ Lunch.
